As a Chiropractor, I listen to many people’s versions and definitions of health. Unfortunately our opinions are formed by what our parents told us and all the information that is provided by general medical practitioners, drug companies, athletic clubs, infomercials and all the superfluous information we can search on Google. In all of this extremely busy mixed messaging the better question may be, how do I know what the truth is about real health? Good question.
Simply Defining
According to Webster’s Dictionary, health is a state of optimum physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease. In other words, health is not how you feel but rather, if you are physically mentally and socially functioning at your optimum potential.
The Dorland’s Medical Dictionary tells us that Health is a state of wholeness where your body’s organs are functioning 100% all the time. There are three components in the health formula. The first is wholeness. In other words, in order to be healthy, you have to have all of the parts of your body. Second, all the parts have to be functioning properly, and third they have to be functioning properly all the time. If you take wholeness, plus 100 percent function, plus the rest of your life you will be healthy. Since we cannot replace parts of your body that have been removed or permanently damaged, then they key to health is function.
What Does Chiropractic Have To Offer?
Chiropractic focuses on the function of the person as a whole and not just the symptoms of the body is presenting. It is very easy to mask the symptoms you are experiencing by using lotions, potions, or worse taking or injecting medications that simply cover the symptom and do not address the cause of the problem which is causing the symptom in the first place.
Chiropractic addresses health as as optimum physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity rather than merely feeling good or being symptom-free.
Our goal as Chiropractors is to help your body function at 100 percent of what your body is capable of achieving.
