You probably hear about the chiropractic wellness lifestyle when you visit Dr Wendy’s office – what is it, and how does it help you and your family?
The chiropractic wellness lifestyle is a series of decisions you make and actions you take to improve your health and enjoy life more.
The chiropractic wellness lifestyle invites you to:
Eat healthfully. Eating organic foods that are not full of pesticides, toxins and hormones and whole foods (foods that have no or minimal processing) is a smart decision savvy health consumers make. Find the right rhythm for your meals — some prefer three squares, though modern food scientists frequently recommend smaller meals at closer intervals. Eat a healthy breakfast every day. Exclude heavily processed foods, like “enriched” flour, sugars, artificial sweeteners, and especially aspartame, a known cancer-causing nerve poison, and take nutritional supplements as needed (ask Drs Wendy and Analisa for their opinion about how to eat more healthfully.)
Exercise. Actively participate in the rehabilitation and strengthening of the body to support repair and maintain your ability to do what you like. You’ll reduce the tendency to be injured, and bounce back from injuries more quickly. Your chiropractor can help you select the right physical activity to fit your age and body type.
Maintain a positive attitude and optimistic thinking. Adopt a happy mindset, and practice constructive habits like reading, meditating, visualizing, reviewing your goals, associating with people who support your dreams, engaging wholeheartedly in whatever form of spirituality you prefer.
Get periodic chiropractic examinations and adjustments when necessary for yourself and your family. Good food, proper exercise and a great mental attitude will be helpful in any case, but regular chiropractic care is the “X-factor” that helps you get the most out of these other health and wellness practices. Getting your spine and nerve system healthier improves every aspect of your body function, and paves the way for you to move toward wellness.

Most people, when asked if they are healthy, usually respond based on the presence or absence of symptoms, as if having symptoms means they are sick, and not having symptoms means they are well.
This is a common misconception, fed by the media, by many doctors, and by the giant businesses that thrive on selling drugs and other symptom-removal products.
Actually, while there is a place for this line of thinking, modern-day health consumers realize that they can be sick and have no symptoms, like when someone feels fine but quietly has a serious disease like cancer or heart disease, or when someone experiences pain while not suffering any serious malady, like when you stub your toe or get a splinter.

The Valentine’s Day season reminds us all of those we really care about – husbands and wives, girlfriends and boyfriends, and admirers from afar descend on card stores and candy-makers to come up with little tokens of our esteem.
But the best way for you to demonstrate how you feel may not be yummy sweets and heartfelt sentiments, as important as those things may be. But if anything disrupts that spring-like action, like misalignments or faulty curves, gravity causes stress and wear-and-tear on our spinal bones, which can lead to arthritis, pain, and other related spinal problems, including damaging or interfering with the delicate nerves those bones are
supposed to protect.
Common sense tells us that it’s better to take care of such misalignments as soon as they occur, instead of letting gravity injure us due to our own neglect. When was the last time you got a check-up to see how well your spine and nerve system are working? Many people don’t yet realize how important it is to keep your spine healthy – it protects the nerves, which carry information to and from the brain so your body parts can work properly, and that’s essential for good health.
How can you take better care of your spine? First, be aware of it, and avoid doing silly things that may injure or damage your spinal structure. Bend your knees when you lift something heavy, and don’t lift things that are too heavy. Sleep on your back or side, not on your stomach – sleeping face down causes an unnatural stress on your low back, and also tends to keep your head turned to one side all night, which causes an unnatural stress on your neck. These stresses may not hurt you at first, but they can accumulate and eventually cause problems.
It’s common sense to take good care of your spine, but most people don’t realize that it may take more than just avoiding injuries or stress. The normal wear and tear, just from sitting, carrying things, and standing or walking may require that you actively keep your spine in good alignment, whether you have pain and symptoms or not. Smart health consumers include spinal care in their health and wellness routine, including massage, yoga, exercise, and of course, chiropractic care.
